FBI arrests 22 SHOT Show attendees

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested 21 executives and employees of the military and law enforcement products industry as they arrived at the 2010 Shooting, Hunting & Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, held Jan. 19-22 in Las Vegas. Those arrested allegedly agreed to pay illegal kickbacks to the defense minister of an African nation in undercover FBI sting. In exchange, the small arms suppliers thought they would be able to sell millions of dollars in weapons and body armor. Another suspect was picked up in Miami.

The indictments represent the largest single investigation and prosecution against individuals in the history of Department of Justice’s enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), which prohibits U.S. persons and companies, and foreign persons and companies acting in the United States, from bribing foreign government officials for the purpose of obtaining or retaining business.
