According to a recent Trade Show Exhibitors Association survey, 97 percent of exhibitors don’t believe they receive the best rate possible when booking rooms for a convention in the housing block. The survey, which polled 188 respondents representing mid-sized and large corporate exhibitors, also found that 89 percent of exhibitors feel that current deposits aren’t fair in all the shows that they exhibit in; 83 percent don’t feel they have sufficient time to submit names of their company’s attendees for convention housing blocks; and only 8 percent of exhibitors believe that all the shows they currently participate in currently have fair convention housing practices. To view the entire survey, click here...UBM International Media, which organizes the annual Cruise Shipping Miami event, will launch a new show, Cruise Shipping Asia, Nov. 16-18, 2011, at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The new show will feature product sectors including destinations, itinerary planning, shore excursion services, port and terminal development as well as ship operations, ship services and hotel operations...The Washington Convention and Sports Authority filed a lawsuit against JBG Properties Inc.; Managing Partner Benjamin R. Jacobs and Chief Development Officer Kenneth F. Finkelstein; Wardman Investor; and CIM/Wardman, alleging that extortion attempts have prevented the authority from building a convention center hotel. The authority alleges that the defendants “unlawfully attempted to extort concessions from Marriott Hotel Services Inc. in connection with the Wardman Park Hotel,” an unrelated hotel property. Marriott has been designated to run the hotel at the convention center.
